Emotions are like Seeds and Weeds
Emotions begin to exist like seeds. They just happen to come to our mind upon experiencing different occasions. If we leave the seeds as they are, just like weeds, they will stay and start to grow.
There are many kinds of emotions. Some of them are favorable and some are unfavorable. The favorable ones are an indication of our instinctive desires, whereas, the unfavorable ones are an indication of instinctive dislikes. Emotions are a mere indicator of our likes and dislikes.
In the case where our favorable emotions start to grow, we can leave them as is, and just enjoy their growth. In the case where our unfavorable emotions start to grow, it is better to remove them. Emotions themselves are not harmful even if they are negative ones, but our creation of negative thoughts that come from negative emotions could be quite harmful. The larger the negative emotions grow, the more harmful our thoughts would become.
So, somehow we need to create ways to control negative emotions. Living without negative thoughts is the desired state of mind, isn't it? Then how can we do so?
I'd say, by paying attention to and facing unfavorable and negative emotions, we can logically understand the causes and control their growth. It is easier to do so while they are in a state of small seeds. So when you feel anger or fear, do face it right away and do think about the reason why they occurred, then most of your negative feelings should subside.
By repeating this method we can train ourselves to control our emotions. This way, we can avoid being trapped in our own negative thoughts, so we can stay happy!
