社内公用語を英語にするよりもっと大切なことがあると考え、始めました
おはようございます。
久々の雨。雲もいい感じです。よし、これでこそ梅雨。
ラッキーにもちょうど雨の降らないとき、傘をささずに出社できました！

社内英会話スクール、今週からなんとか始めることができました。
希望者には週に１回１人１枠あてがわれて、業務時間内に先生と
１対１で会話の練習ができるという場を設けてもらいました。
先生方を集めるのは、女性新入社員のアリスさん(ニックネーム)に頼みました。
彼女は幼少から長いこと米国在住、日本の大学を出たのですが、その間、
東京で英会話講師をしていたので、その講師仲間に声掛けしてもらったのです。
仕組みについては、経企総務グループの面々が色々と事前に考え、
スクールの場所と受講カードなどを準備してくれました。
そして、いよいよ一昨日スタートできたのです。

「組織としての英語能力をどのように高めるか」
実は１ヶ月ほど前にこのようなことを経営会議で議論していました。
今後、グローバルな業務として英語は不可避です。今のままではいけない。
組織としての実力アップのために何かやる必要があります。
自分は、英語ディスカッション研修を行うのがいいのではないかと提案。
ところがボードメンバーからは別な意見がでてきました。
「それだと、英語が上手い人がディスカッションの中心になってしまいます。
上手い人がより上手くなるだけで、底上げにならないと思うんですよね…」
確かに言われてみればその通りです。
社内公用語を強制的に英語にして、できない人を足切りする。
それも一つの手段なのでしょうが、理想組織での方法とは違うと考えました。
言われてみれば確かに今、うちに必要なのはいわゆる底上げです。
社内にいる人たちの基礎能力を上げていくのが理想組織ウェイです。

外国語での会話はその機会があるかどうかで決まります。
機会があるので勉強をしたいというモチベーションが高まる。
勉強をすればより通じる。そこでいいスパイラルが始まる。
ゆえに英会話スクール参加への補助を出すというようなこともあるでしょう。
ところが、あまりそれが成功しているということも聞きません。
ましてや、成長中で皆、業務が手いっぱいの中、「会社が補助を出すよ」
と言ったところで、なかなか行くだけのエネルギーは残っていないでしょう。
そこで考えたのです。
「ならば、英会話スクールを会社で開催してしまえばいいじゃん！」
それであれば、業務時間中に１時間、割り当てればいいだけです。
逆転の発想なわけですね。

実際に始めたところ、皆の日報の「Good News/Special thanks to」欄に、
コメントが載り始めました。
また、講師にも同じ形式で日報を書いてもらい、記録を残してもらうことにしました。
今週はまずTuan先生でスタート。来週からはNatalia先生も加わります。

今までは、アメリカ人にスムーズに伝わることに努力してきたと思います。
一方、崩した表現などは、アメリカでの学生言葉です。
ビジネス用語はニューイングランド地方の落ち着いた、丁寧で聞き取り
やすい知的な表現が理想とされています。
次はグローバルに通じやすいビジネス英語へと脱皮しましょう！

* Kenji: Kenji was able to talk about himself regarding his job, interests, hobbies and his short/long term goals.
He is quite keen on improving his communication skills and ambitious of using English to communicate with foreigners.
Kenji might be able to make good use of the textbooks we have here to reinforce his vocabulary and knowledge when it comes to business communication skills.
* Ayako: Ayako had a go and was able to express herself quite well about her personal interests, travel experiences and what she would like to improve on.
She has a strong passion about music and this can help her tremendously.
Vocabulary is something that she can spend more time on in her free time, just by reading short news in English on the Internet, learning how to sing new songs would be beneficial as well.
* Rui: Rui is really keen on working and improving his listening skill, he has been suggested methods to help improve this and hopefully this will become an effective way for him.
Rui is very serious about being able to understand conversations between foreigners therefore Rui was advised to take up on Pronunciation Text starting from the next lesson.

Tomorrow will be another exciting getting to know new students and I'm
looking forward to meeting them and listening to their talks.

* Hitomi: Hitomi and I had a very interesting conversation about things that she likes to do in her free time and about herself.
She was able to explain to me with every little difficulties and I think it is a great start.
Let's keep up the good work and focus more on building your vocabulary next time.
* Tomoyuki: Tomoyuki was having a bit of difficulty expressing himself from the beginning probably due to the fact that he was a little nervous but he soon became more confident to talk about computer related topics and about his work.
He tried hard and I think he did a good job today. Keep up the good work.
* Daisuke: Daisuke was very articulate, knowledgeable about digital devices, computer technicalities and he had almost no problem in explaining how the system works at the company.
I think that he has great confidence, passionate about his work. Well done.
* Megulu: Mel is a great person to talk to and his English is like a native. He certainly is a great member to have at the company.
