Edward de Bono's Message for Today - July 12, 2009
»
"Most of the thinking tools we have developed over the centuries deal with
the second stage of thinking - the stage that follows once we have already
formed our ideas. Mathematics and logic deal with ready-made ideas. It is
on the first stage of thinking that we form our ideas. This is the generative
stage of thinking. It is also the generous stage of thinking. At this stage
what matters is producing ideas. It is only after we have got some ideas that
we can be critical and selective. You have to have a rose-bush before you can
prune it. If you start applying pruning techniques to the seedling you will
never get anywhere."
