今どき"Made in the US"を売りにする会社：Room&Board

シアトルのUniversity Village というショッピングモールの書店Barnes & Nobleが閉店し、その後にオープンしたのは、Room&Boardという家具屋さん。どうせ大きなチェーン店で面白みもないだろうと勝手に思い込んでいて、実際に入ってみたのは先週末だった。

意外だったのは、ショールームにおかれている家具すべて、"Made in Wisconsin"とか、"Made in North Dakota"と、どの州で作られているか明示されていたこと。"Made in China"のサインは見当たらなかった。お店の人に「アメリカ国内製のものはどのくらいあるのですか？」と訪ねたところ、「90％以上です。」との返事。ほんまかいな？と半信半疑で、家に帰って来てウェブサイトを見てみた。
