＜疑問＞ なぜ買ったのか?

評論家の書評というより、ジャケットの印象がすごく洗練されていたことと、シングルカットされた「Everyday I write the book」をすごく気に入っていたため。

たいていシングルの印象で買うとその他の曲は数あわせで期待はずれということもあるのだが、運良く期待にそぐわぬ名作であった。

It was written by Elvis Costello, was a Billboard Top 40 hit in the United States^[1], and peaked at 28 on the UK Singles Chart. It was Elvis Costello's first hit single in the United States.^[2][3] According to one reviewer, Elvis Costello himself is consistently dismissive of the composition despite its success and refers to it as "a bad Smokey Robinson song."^[3]

来自分の結婚式のオープニングはこの曲と決めていたのだが、海外挙式のため実現せず。

最初の印象が強烈で、良い体験をしてしまうとしばらく余韻で生きていける。実験的な取り組みもそのタイミングでいろいろ試すのがよいかもと考えていたのだが、世間の評価はむしろその後の作品の方が高いようで。。。。

「The　World　AND　HIS　WIFE」の当時の邦題が「コステロ音頭」だったので、盆踊りの曲にしか聞こえなくなった記録がある。※ピーターバラカンの訳だったらしい。
