Bonuses and comments function as mechanical oil
After describing the new features of CACHATTO to our customers at the EXPO last week, I realized I was quite impressed with the progress we had made in the past year. CACHATTO TIMES, a pamphlet created last month by the Planning and Promotion Group for the EXPO, contained the newly added features to CACHATTO of the past year. There were a dozen new features introduced in the pamphlet.
Needless to say, the new features were not only programmed by Development Group, but also groups such as Quality Assurance, System Engineering, Sales, Technical Support, Infrastructure Design, and Global Business contributed. Requirements from customers keep coming, so we have to prioritize each feature to implement, plan the development, juggle the delivery timing, check the quality, and release it to the market. Everything came together, thanks to everyone's high sense of responsibility and hard work. I really appreciate that.
I often wonder what enabled us to work so hard, so cooperatively, and so proactively. Of course, there have been quite a bit of conflicts and grinding arguments throughout each process, but we managed to deliver those improvements to the market in a timely manner. As a group of people working together, we seem to know that helping others is helping yourself and being constructive is an efficient way to success in the long run.
I believe the positive atmosphere comes from sufficient income and sufficient attention to each person. If you have a sufficient amount of money, you can start sharing it with others. Just like money, if you have a sufficient amount of attention from others, you can start taking care of others. If you can create that kind of atmosphere, the business will unfold soundly and become profitable.
At e-Jan, based on the philosophy above, I designed the compensation system to be sufficient to everyone, and put a high priority on taking care of each other. The company pays a large amount in bonuses which enriches disposable income. I made it my task to put comments on everyone's daily report every morning. If making comments helps create this atmosphere, then it would be a reasonable amount of my time to invest. Bonuses and comments function as mechanical oil. Mechanical oil is a necessary function; without it, engines won't work. So, in the long run, such lubricant improves the business significantly.
